E26-10 La Chasse

Ariel suggested a mountain restaurant for La Chasse, the traditional Fall hunters meal. We stopped by Sylvia’s house in the morning, said our goodbyes and continued up the hill in suburban Vevey to another “on demand” train stop, where you can press a button and the train stops just for you. We rode the local cog train up to Les Pléiades, the top of the mountain above Vevey. A cog train has a cog wheel that engages with a center rail for the steep parts. The center rail has a profile that looks like a Toblerone.

They have a bunch of astronomical outdoor exhibits at the top, including a model with a golf ball sized earth and a huge sun on a neighboring hill. Here is Michele holding the sun.

The restaurant is a half hour walk to an area called La Châ. You can only get to this restaurant by foot, ski or four wheel drive. How they stay in business I’m not sure, but the food was great.

I’m helping my friend Darin teach a cooking class at the end of October, supposedly “International Cooking”. Does this count? Too Germanic?

From 12 o’clock: grilled onion with mustard, poached shallot in wine, slow cooked leg of venison, a small stuffed cabbage, remoulade of celery, chestnuts with local honey, red cabbage sauerkraut, local wine grapes, butternut poached in said grape juice, local pear, poached. Spaetzle in the center.

By Friday evening we were in Manchester. The Raddison Blu hotel at Manchester airport is surprisingly great.
